Brazilian or Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, made famous by the Gracie family in the early days of the UFC, is one of the most respected and effective grappling arts in the world. “BJJ” is not based on strength, but on using leverage as technique. This allows a much smaller person to control and defeat a larger opponent with the ability to injure to the degree necessary to the situation.
Since most street fights (or MMA fights) end up on the ground, BJJ concentrates on the hierarchy of superior and inferior positions on the ground. This foundation allows practitioners to control and submit their opponents. Our program is distinct from other Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and ND grappling schools in the Fargo, Moorhead area, in that, we give serious attention to the clinch and takedown phase (Which is especially important in a climate like North Dakota!) Skill in the grappling range is necessary to complete your martial arts training in order to truly defend yourself. For MMA training; effective understanding of Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling is an imperative. We offer a FREE introductory class & a FREE 30 Day Trial , don’t hesitate to Call Now or Stop in Today! -
Our program is passed on by Professor Pedro Sauer, an 8th degree Red & Black belt under Helio Gracie & Rickson Gracie, the Abu Dahbi Combat Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor of the year 2000 and is considered one of most technical Black Belt professors in the world. Head Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fargo coach Dylan Spicer at the Academy of Combat Arts is a brown belt coach directly under Master Greg Nelson (2nd Degree Black Belt) and Professor Pedro Sauer. Another aspect unique to our program is the integration of several grappling methods such as Judo and wrestling. Dylan has traveled and trained with many different Jiu Jitsu Artists and Practitioners giving him experiences under several different training methodoligies. Our Fargo BJJ competition team has collected medals at every tournament we have entered.
We can help create law enforcement and military combatives progams for local and national departments and forces. Our grappling program is simply the best in the midwest!
Class Format: BJJ Class begins with a 5-10 minute warm-up followed by the coach demonstrating techniques, and the students drilling the techniques. In some cases students do live drilling for specific positions and/or certain submissions. After class is reserved for open mat time where students have the chance to spar live for position and submission holds on the ground. Advanced class students focus on live take downs, rolling, positional rolling, and conditioning.
